Well, theres the good and the bad....

so i reformatted and installed windows, now with 100% less RAID-0. Only to find out that since I had to install windows on my laptop using the same CD while my desktop was out of commission, it is no longer a valid product key, which means I have 30 days to talk to MS and see if they will cut me some slack. Also, there is way lag when dragging windows around the screen, maybe cuz i need to update video card drivers?

any advice on the 30 day thing would be appreciated.....


EDIT:

Just found out that MS support requests cost $59. I am totally fucked, aren't I?
I dont have the $$ for a support request OR to buy a new copy of Windows to use that product key.....

    Is it an OEM copy?

    Because if it is, call MS, say your motherboard died (all oem software is uniquely tied to the motherboard), bat your eyelids a few times and see if they will help you out.

    Tried A Real Guitar After Guitar Hero

    I had a similar problem... I installed XP on a machine of mine I had reformatted... Well I couldn't find the XP disc so I took the reinstall disc from my sisters laptop... Well all in all it took an hour and a half on the phone with MS but we finally got a new Product Key... I've always done that, just installed it with whatever XP disc and then said "Yeah I reformatted and I just used a different CD to install and I cant find the other with said product key." and they've always given me a new product key, so long as at one point I had an authentic install of XP.

    Actually... went it comes to keys, I do not think you have to pay the support fee. I actually lost my key at one point because I bought online and lost the email. I called up MS and they were actually very nice and helpful, and replaced my key right away.

    Maybe you are calling the wrong department?

      hmmm, I might have, but their online tool to determine what was available said all support requests for my product number had been used.

      but i found a helpful...tool...that fixed the problem
