What the heck?! Whats up with this?

This is gonna be short, as i have to get ready for class.....

i installed kubuntu linux on my 2nd HDD, and now when i go to boot into WINDOWS, i get a system crash right after clicking on the user icon to log in. I know I didn't overwrite Windows, because after I installed linux, I first booted into windows to make sure everything worked, and it did. To make matters worse, I cant seem to install anything in linux, as i go into the console, and for example type "sudo apt-get install fireofx" and everything goes smoothly until the window displays "configuring-sun-java6-bin" and a liscense agreement. there is the word "ok" at the bottom, but i cannot click it, and the install will not progress!

HELP!

    First off, please describe the error you're getting exactly. "System crash" is not very descriptive :D

    Secondly, to install Sun Java, you need to scroll through the whole EULA and then either click or type 'ok' (depending on the interface; read the instructions).

      OK, i figured out the java thing, i had to press tab then enter...

      as to the system crash, windows appears to boot normally, getting to the user logon page, and i click the user icon to log in, no password as i am the only one who uses this computer. It loads my desktop, but gets about as far as the wallpaper before the screen goes dark and the system reboots. ONCE i caught a glimpse of the BSOD, or something that looked like it, but only once.

        Boot in safe mode, then disable the automatic reboot. (Control Panel > System > System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > uncheck 'Automatic restart'). Next time, note the bluescreen error and address.

          also, since i have 2 boot things, the things that let you choose which os to boot, how do i boot into safe mode?
          first the Kubuntu chooser comes up, listing Kubuntu and Vista (which im not even running i reformatted that drive), then if i choose vista, the vista loader comes up, allowing the choice of Vista(?!) and and "an older version of windows"

            In the second bootloader, the Vista bootloader, hit F5. That should trigger safe mode.

              hmmm....when i tried that, instead of booting into safe mode it booted normally, and didnt crash! @_@;

              Im not one to question good fortune, but this seems odd.....

              OK, this is weird. I went to bed last night, everything was fine. I wake up, my computer has restarted and booted into linux by default. I try to restart and go into windows, and it crashed again. luckily i had done what you said and gone into the controll panel to disable auto-restart. bad thing is, there was no BSOD when it crashed, just a black screen....

    i'm pretty sure you overwrote the bootloader.
    when you went to install kubuntu, did you change the boot order of the hard drives? if you didn't, then you overwrote the bootloader and are somewhat screwed. try to find the bootloader file for kubuntu and i may be able to help. i don't remember the exact location, so google it.

      well, the bootloader is the thing that lets you choose which OS to boot, right? cuz first the linux boot chooser thing comes up, and if i select windows, it loads the vista loader, from when i had vista installed, ( i reformatted that drive cuz i was tired of vista)

        the bootloader basically tells the computer how to load the operating system. microsoft tries not to confuse ppl by just choosing the default operating system, but linux, of course, gives the user more power/control over the computer, so they custom made a bootloader that lets u choose OSes and other options.

      well, i dont know where to look for the bootloader file for kubuntu, but i found a "boot.ini" and "bootmgr" files in the root of the windows drive, which i can browse in Linux. lucky for me i was able to backup all my music and movies, so even if i have to reinstall, i can just move it all back over....
