so my desktop is, like, borked or something

So I go off to work this afternoon, all is well. 4 hours later, I return, my comp is locked up, black screen, no task manager showing up, noting working. I reboot, manually due to lock up, and run chkdsk. it runs fine. Upon booting into windows, all sorts of errors arrive, I believe most have to do with th fact that there is no internet connection available. this is ludicrious. I go to manually tell it to connnect, and it says "not connected" in the status box. double-click to connnect, get prompted "are you sure you want to disconnect" WTF? no internet, cannot connect, errors on boot.....
I know the router is working, as I am typing this on my laptop....the worst bit is, it happened while I was at work, so I didn't see any at-the-moment errors....

Any Suggestions?

    put the drive in an enclosure, copy it to another external hd using ur laptop, then install linux!

    or another option which would actually be better - buy a new HD (www.newegg.com has very cheap everything computer-related) and change the boot priority to that HD (actually just unplug the first one lol) and install linux on it!

    cuz linux is magical :D
    i personally recommend Ubuntu, since its what i use, and i've had no problems so far :D
    you can use Wine, which is a windows compatibility layer - instead of installing a windows virtual machine, you can just run windows programs with Wine! that's how im running WC3 haha :P

      Not everyone wants to or can use linux. Do we really have to start saying "in before linux" now?

      oh :( ok
      well... u could always just reinstall windows, but make sure you know what drivers you have (it's a pain in the ass to find drivers haha).

        re-reinstall windows! I REALLY hope I wont have to do that.....I would have so much stuff to back up....

      i dont think it is the mobo, as the comp starts and boots and such. I can boot into BIOS and everything.
