For backstory, read "so my desktop is borked" , my previous blog entry.
I'M beginning to think it may indeed be the MotherBoard, as we had a power outage last night.(I was asleep at the time) and now the damn thing wont boot. the drives are fine, they power up and stuff, but nothing that draws power direct from the motherboard, such as keyboard, mouse, wireless card, have any lights coming on, and thus no power. Now if I get a new motherboard, presumably the same type, could I install it without having to wipe the OS? or should I get my drives backed up and just do a clean install?

The report I read on this was incomplete, and no test cases were provided, so I'd call Dell and discuss it with them before making any purchases.

You'll still run into a few problems when swapping motherboards, though, since Microsoft considers that as being an entirely new computer at that point. You'll have to re-activate Windows online, or call them.

I know it is OEM as it has the license info on the case/sleeve thing: "this OEM software is....blah blah blah."
