I am going to be breaking this review down into Categories, so here goes:
Overall:
Now, I had played the original LA for the non-color GB, so I was familiar with the plot and such. So I will focus on what was new. This includes the graphics, obviously, as well as the new Dungeon. But I will still go over everything else.
Graphics: This one is easy. The colors vastly improved, IMHO, the gameplay. The colors are vibrant and pleasing. The ONLY this that bothered me was that Link himself looks a little plain. Not bad, but maybe there could have been a bit more verdant shade of green? Overall, 9/10 since it is a good looking GBC game.
Sound: Let me be the first to say I have a conflict here. I LOVE Zelda soundtracks. Always very good. However, I don't usually like the chip-style music of earlier games. LA does a good job of disguising it with a pretty good set of tunes, with great melodys, even if it is beepy as hell. My personal favorite song is Tal Tal Heights. (go play SSBB and get it's CD) So 8/10 for good songs, bad medium. But that was the tech at the time.
Controls: This will be short. I didn't mind the 2 button controls, though I know other people did. Not sure why...I found em easy to use, after all, its only two buttons. 8/10 cuz I liked em, but apparently not everyone will.
Story: 10/10! This is where Zelda games always shine. Link's Awakening has been praised by even non-gaming news publications for its legendary story. (I believe it was the NY Times) One aspect of the plot I did not entirely agree with was SPOILER
the "its all a dream" ending
BUT every other funny, awesome moment made up for it. Did I mention this game is FUNNY? IT IS!!

Because everyone has different expectations. I gave it a 10/10 because I enjoyed it a lot. that doesnt mean YOU will. Try it for yourself. If you have a GBC, go buy the damn thing, its like $10 at a used game place. If you dont have one, there are plenty of emulators out there ( I don't condone piracy, but everyone should play this game at least to try it)
Replay: Well, I liked the game, so I gave it 7/10. Again, go see for yourself. There are no bonuses to replaying the game, aside from the FUN I hope you will have.
Also, Why the HELL is the Wind FISH a WHALE with WINGS?!!!

This one was the weirdest zelda game ever. I had the B&W version, and I managed to set my tint to orange and never found out how to change it back. Sad times.

You can replace GB save batteries, you know. take a pair of tweezers and grasp the screw on the back of the cart, then twist. Pop off the back, replace the battery, stick it back on, and re-twist the screw

Ah yes, this was a good game indeed. I must disagree with you about the chiiptunes though. They are great! And I always have to praise the zelda series for using more or less the same exact storyline for every game in the series, and yet still making the games seem fun, new, interesting, and exciting. (Yes, thats a good thing!)
